Shifted
FAQ

Questions, answered.

What is Shifted?+

Shifted is an app that connects hospitality workers with shifts at bars, restaurants, hotels and festivals across Scotland. You pick the shifts you want. There's no rota and no minimum hours.

How much does it cost?+

Nothing. Shifted is free for workers: no fees and no subscription. The rate you see on a shift is what you're paid.

How do I get paid?+

You're paid through the app for every shift you work, with payments handled securely by Stripe, the same payment platform trusted by millions of businesses worldwide. Some shifts have our Shifted Instant Pay feature, which lets you withdraw straight away after your shift.

Do I need experience?+

Each shift lists what the venue needs. Some roles ask for experience or a licence; plenty don't. Pick the roles that fit you and skip the ones that don't.

What about right-to-work checks?+

Before your first shift you'll verify your right to work in the UK in the app. Have your passport ready, or your share code if you're on a visa. If your visa limits your working hours, it's your responsibility to stay within them.

What's my employment status?+

You work as self-employed. Thanks to the UK trading allowance, you can earn up to £1,000 per tax year before you need to declare it to HMRC. Above that, you'll register for Self Assessment. Your status, pay and responsibilities are set out in the worker terms you accept when you sign up. You can read them any time in our terms and conditions.

What if I need to cancel a shift?+

You can cancel in the app, but do it at least 48 hours before the shift starts. Cancelling inside 48 hours or not showing up can lead to suspension from the platform. Venues also rate workers after each shift, so reliability affects which shifts you're offered.

Where does Shifted operate?+

Across Scotland, including Edinburgh, Glasgow and the country's biggest festivals and events.
